Twilight on Oprah: 5 Memorable Moments
Yesterday’s Oprah Winfrey Show featuring the stars of Twilight was an enormous hit with fans. I already wrote about the pregnancy comment when it leaked last week, but there were many other memorable moments:
Oprah gives Kristen a comforting hug. With finesse surpassing that of Barbara Walters, Oprah probed Kristen to comment on whether she was shy. “I get so nervous…”, Kristen admitted after Oprah asked her whether stardom was overwhelming. “It’s okay…” the seasoned host comfortingly cooed as she gave Kstew a hug.
Taylor defends his clean-cut Image. “No!” Rob blurted almost immediately when Oprah asked Taylor whether it was true that he had “never smoked a cigarette [and] never had a drink”. Taylor answered quite differently. “Honestly, no,” he refuted, “I guess it was how I was raised by my parents and my family.”
Rob admits teenage aspiration to become a rapper. It was revealed in response to Oprah’s question about how he affected an American accent—he admitted his passion for rapping had him practicing for years, and said there may even be some old tapes of his 14-year-old self rapping somewhere. Said Oprah, after Rob confessed his unfulfilled dream, “Oh, I wish I’d have known that…” Of course, the audience laughed. “We’d be playing [the tapes] right now if I’d have known that.”
None of the Twilight stars signs Oprah’s No Phone Zone Pledge. I was sure it was coming. I don’t watch Oprah religiously but she manages to get most celebs on her show to pledge to agree to refrain from using one’s cell phone while driving. During the show, they ran commercials about the No Phone Zone agreement, including one of Justin Bieber signing. Yet, at the end of the show, the participation of the Twilight stars was conspicuously absent.
Rob wants to stay for dinner. After making the last of three household visits to unsuspecting fans, Rob returned to his waiting SUV and said the sweetest thing of the family he’d visited. “They were really nice. That was nice. I kind of just wanted to stay there and have dinner.”
