Jackson Interview with Cosmopolitan

Jackson Interview with Cosmopolitan

The Twilight star, who plays R-Patz's brother Jasper, loomed large in Breaking Dawn 2's big twist. What's next for the retired vamp and new dad? Rathbone came to Cosmo headquarters (with baby son Monroe!) to talk shockers and his new family. Beware: Breaking Dawn 2 spoilers ahead!

So, how’s Monroe?
He’s the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life. He’s the best part of the future. This is the reason to wake up in the morning. This is the light that shines regardless of the sun.

Do you love him like Edward and Bella love Renesmee?
I imagine my love is real...because it is! So, we're deep in the Twilight zone here?

We are and we got the closure we needed from Breaking Dawn, so thank you!
So you don’t have PTSD—post-Twilight stress disorder? Excellent.

Do you?
No, I’m good. I was able to take the makeup off, take the contacts out, put the boots away and say goodbye to Jasper. But saying goodbye to the fans is probably the hardest part. It’s been an honor to play a character that they’ve welcomed into their lives.

Jackson Interview with The Daily Cougar

Jackson Interview with The Daily Cougar

After the premiere of the new movie from The Twilight Saga, vampires have dominated many conversations of young locals.

Jackson Rathbone, who plays Jasper Hale in the “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2,” was at the Four Seasons Hotel and Resort on Friday to discuss why the saga was such a phenomenon to begin with.

“I think what Stephenie Meyer was able to create was putting out that there is the duality that we experience in life, which is love and fear,” Rathbone said. “You have this character that falls in love with someone she should fear. I think that when love conquers fear, it is something that is so innate in our human sensibilities that we are immediately attracted to it.”

“There are a lot of love stories out there, but there is not that sense of having to conquer fear. To have the sensibility and connectivity that you can fall in love and be love for eternity is something I firmly believe in and that people look for in life. So to me, that’s what draws people to it.”

Rathbone could not reveal much about the highly anticipated battle scene, but he believes it is going to leave fans speechless.

“I love action sequences. It’s really fun getting to utilize that vampire strength and speed because we didn’t get to do it a lot,” he said. “In a lot of the ‘Twilight’ films, we didn’t get a chance to really dive into what makes a vampire movie so great. So it was amazing to get a chance to dive in there.”

The battle sequence took about six weeks to film, some of which did not make the final cut.

When it comes to Rathbone’s relationship with the rest of the cast, he said that they have all grown closer over the course of the films.

According to Rathbone, there is always a lot music involved when the cast gets together.

“I remember back on the first “Twilight” we would all jam together and Nikki Reed and I would write together. She wanted to learn how to write music and play songs. Rob and I actually played open mic night close to the hotel. When we get together there’s a lot of music,” he said.

Rathbone’s last day on set was not full of tearful goodbyes, but rather an emotional farewell to his character.

“For me, I had a nice moment taking off the white makeup and the contacts and putting Jasper’s boots away. I really took the time to say goodbye to the character because he’d been such apart of my life for a long time.”

Robert, Kristen and Jackson Interview with Star Pulse

Robert, Kristen and Jackson Interview with Star Pulse

Nothing says interesting movie insight more than getting the words right from the mouths of those involved. So in tribute to the final installment of the famed Twilight series titled “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Pt. 2” (opening Nov. 16 from Summit Entertainment) Starpulse decided to check in with everyone involved to get their cool take on all things Twilight. Involved in these interviews are Director Bill Condon, Author Stephanie Meyer, Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, Producer Wyck Godfrey and no less than eight actors including Michael Sheen, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone, Kellan Lutz, Elizabeth Reaser and of course the main trio of Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. And no stone is left unturned – from filming the classic clash between the Cullen clan and the Volturi to thoughts on the end of the series it’s all here. Enjoy!

For better or worse, "The Twilight Saga" is coming to an end. Without a doubt, Stephenie Meyer’s set of novels that chronicles a teenager’s journey into adulthood (or should I say, vampirehood) while finding the love of her life, has left its bite in American pop culture.

Team Edward, Team Jacob and Twihards have become cultural lexicons. The movie adaptation has made stars out of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, luring teenage girls (and some men) to the cineplex.

With the final book split into two movies, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part Two" presents the happily-ever-after of Bella’s marriage to Edward, her transformation to a vampire (to save her life) and the birth of their daughter Renesmee. The Volturi, the legion that governs all vampires, feels threatened by this half-vampire-half-human child and sets out to destroy the Cullen vampire clan.

Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner won’t be the only actors putting away their supernatural ways after Friday’s theatrical debut of the fifth and final “Twilight Saga” movie, “Breaking Dawn — Part 2.”

“Seeing the movie the other day was very emotional, just the end of the end of everything. I’m sort of in denial right now,” said Elizabeth Reaser, 37, who plays Esme Cullen, the matriarch of the good-hearted Cullen vampire clan, during a recent press conference at the Four Seasons Hotel.

“I just keep putting it off and like probably … Nov. 17, I’ll have a meltdown of major order, but I still think, ‘We’re doing this and it’s fun.’”

Like Reaser, Jackson Rathbone, Kellan Lutz and Nikki Reed all have been portraying members of Edward Cullen’s (Pattinson) coven since the big-screen saga began with 2008’s “Twilight.”

Jackson Interview with SFX

Jackson Interview with SFX

While the Twilight Saga films may not have been every genre fan’s cup of blood, the final film in the franchise, Breaking Dawn Part 2, at least promises to close out the story with an onslaught of action and a lot less brooding. It picks up with newlywed vampires Bella and Edward Cullen (Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson) enlisting their kin to protect their supernatural child, Renesmee, from the vindictive Volturi. Family includes Jasper Cullen played by Jackson Rathbone, who has a hand in training his family on how to fight their enemies. In an exclusive with SFX, Rathbone talks about closing out the series on a high note.

Jasper is the Cullen newest to the “no human blood” diet so he’s struggled in the prior films. Where is he in this film?
“I think Eclipse is a big turning point for Jasper and he really can control himself better. In Breaking Dawn, he’s fine and much more comfortable. There are a couple scenes, which I’m not sure make it [to the final cut], where Alice and Jasper banter with the kids from high school. So he’s good now and kicked his habit. He’s on the deer diet.”

After five films, hordes of die-hard Twi-hards and billions at the box office, "The Twilight Saga" concludes Friday with the release of "Breaking Dawn: Part 2."

Jackson Rathbone, who has played sensitive vampire Jasper Hale for four years, says he never imagined it would be such a wonderful ride.

"I had no clue it would be this big when I signed on for a vampire movie," he said. "It just blew up."

Rathbone, who originally auditioned for the role of Edward, said he studied Civil War photographs and movies to help him portray the stoic vampire, who became a bloodsucker in the Civil War era.

"He's definitely angry," he said of Jasper. "He's the newest (Cullen) to the veggie way of life and he's still very reticent about his way of life: He nearly kills Bella. It's like not being able to eat at an all-you-can-eat buffet."

The Twilight hunk said he loves playing a vampire because "they're much cooler than wolves," and he understands the Cullens' appeal.

"They're a group of outcasts," he said. "A lot of times we feel like that. We just want to connect with people, to be a part of a group, like they are."

The actor admitted he would love to reprise his role as Jasper in more "Twilight" movies, but he's ready to hang up his fangs for now. He's busy developing films, has a solo record coming out in December called "Billy Bad Ass," landed a role on the USA Network series "White Collar," and, most importantly, he's relishing his role as new dad to 4-month-old son Monroe.

"My son is the most amazing thing in the world."

The movie version of the Twilight saga comes to an end tomorrow — with quite possibly the biggest vampire smackdown ever committed to film. We sat down with Jackson Rathbone, who plays Jasper, for an exclusive interview. Rathbone told us about the massive battle scene — and why Twilight's vampires are sort of like the X-Men.

Rathbone also told us that Jasper spent the whole first Twilight movie wanting to kill Bella. Spoilers ahead...

When we sat down with Rathbone, he seemed pretty jazzed about all the fight scenes in the new movie. As the movie begins, Jasper is at peace for the first time since he gave up drinking human blood, not too long ago. But Jasper's peace is shattered when the Volturi and their allies attack. And Jasper's never one to back away from a fight. According to Rathbone, there's a nice little moment early in the film, which comes back in a surprising way towards the end and shows just how far Jasper and Alice are willing to go to protect their family.

Robert Interview
What have you taken away from this final film in particular, working with this group of people? This series is almost like High School or College, every year you’re thrown back together with this group of people – with some new people, new classmates, teachers – to me it sort of has that feeling….
Robert Pattinson: Yeah. We’ve all had a massively formative experience together. It is sort of the same thing as going to College or High School. We’re all sort of around the same age as well, which is more unusual with a film. That usually doesn’t happen. It was a long haul for the last one, it definitely felt like an ending. Suddenly there was an enormous amount of new cast, we were doing scenes with 30 people in it, massive fight scenes. It seemed big, and you did feel like it turned into a juggernaut by that point. And then ending with me and Kristen, that was the final thing we shot. It was like, “Ah yeah, Edward and Bella, off into the sunset.” (Laughs).

Without giving too much away about the battle, what was that like to actually film? That’s certainly a bigger, more epic moment than what we’ve seen in any of the previous ‘Twilight’ movies. Did you do extra physical training for that?
Robert Pattinson: Yeah. I’d read that in the script before I read the book, so when it got to that moment I was thinking, “What?! Ok, you’re really going for it.” But it was crazy, just turning up – it felt like a vampire movie (laughs). But no, it was definitely exciting shooting that. Training wise, not really, and we were doing a lot of the choreography kind of on the fly – because people kept getting injured, so we kept having to change it (laughs). But it was fun. There was one massive shot, there’s like a 70 foot jump into a punch, that was pretty fun to shoot.

Jackson Interview with Spinning Platters

Jackson Interview with Spinning Platters

How will civilization sustain itself without a Twilight movie to look forward to every fall? I for one will miss my annual trip to the theater each November to watch a Morrissey-looking vampire and shirtless werewolf fight for the love of an unhappy lesbian. One person with an even more personal take on the conclusion of the series is X-Men enthusiast, Civil War buff, and Twilight actor Jackson Rathbone (he plays Jasper Hale, neither the Morrissey-looking vampire nor the shirtless werewolf ), whom I spoke to during a recent press junket. Looking less pale and significantly less blond than he does in the films (Rathbone had to dye his naturally dark hair blond to match the character description in the books) the charming Texan talked about his illustrious ancestry, his action figures and what might be next now that Breaking Dawn has broken.

It’s been quite a ride since the beginning of the series. Is it hard to say goodbye?
It’s definitely an interesting feeling putting away the boots of a character you’ve been wearing for so long. I definitely had a wonderful, kind of intense moment on the last day of filming. We’d filmed for twelve, thirteen hours. It was cold and raining. It was 3:00am and I was in my trailer taking off my makeup, and I thought, “Wow, this is the last time I’m going to do this.” It was nice yet at the same time I’m like, “Oh, I’m a little bit nostalgic.”

Jackson Interview with Metro

Jackson Interview with Metro

The actors who portray the Cullen family in the Twilight series have had the luxury of a steady gig for five years now — something of a rarity for a film actor. But that’s all over now. So, who’s ready for life after Twilight and who’s not? We checked in with the Cullens.

Jackson Rathbone: “I’ve been focusing on my production company, trying to get projects launched. It’s a learning process as a producer just as much as I constantly learn as an actor. I do have hopes to direct. And I always make independent music through my record label, Happy Jack Music.”

"Breaking Dawn Part 2'' Press Conference Transcript

Jackson

New vampires ?

I played a joke on Erik Odom, who plays one of my Texas brethern. I said, ''Hey man ? Where are your teeth ? You’re missing your teeth''

How do you feel about being able to surprise fans who have read the book so many times ?
The last 20 minutes of the film are really going to be huge for the fans. It’s really amazing and beautiful, and brings back to the first Twilight. It’s really awesome, and exciting!

Do you watch other vampire shows?
I always loved the vampire genre of film. I watch vampire movies like Underworld now, there are so many different types of vampires out there. That’s why I loved this world, it’s so different than any other type of vampire out there. I loved that about Part 2, we get to see vampires from all walks of life, from all over the world.

Jackson ''Comic-Con" Fansite Interview

Jackson ''Comic-Con" Fansite Interview

If you could do anything besides acting, what would you do?
Kellan: Invent. I love inventing, that's my first passion. So I would just love to create a bunch of patents,
I have a book of 50 right now. So I'd love to be a mad scientist who plays around with chemistry, and
solves all the world's problems and creates a few of them himself.

Did you ever have a mad scientist lab kit when you were a kid?
Kellan: I did. I still do. It’s kind of grown to a “Ren and Stimpy” kind of lab, which is fun.

And who's your favorite scientist?
Kellan: Michio Kaku. He deals with wormholes. Check him out. He’s great.

Now we're all going to have to Google him!
Kellan: Him and Albert Einstein, they're both so ahead of our time. It's just fascinating to read about them,
what their theories are on loopholes and everything else. It’s fascinating stuff.
