Robert Pattinson : ''I wanted to be a musician''

Fond of boxing, British Rob Pattinson is inspired by the noble art's codes of honor and Arsenal's elegance to manage his career. Meeting in Los Angeles with the new face of Dior Homme fragrance.

Sprawled on the sofa of the suite 111 at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Hollywood, eyes unfocused, Rob Pattinson is obviously tired. The blame to a party that lasted late the night before. However, he welcomes his guests with respect and sincerity leaping suddenly to his feet. Backwards Baseball cap, black shirt, jeans and sneakers, Diet Coke in hand, Robert Thomas Pattinson has very little to do with Edward Cullen, his avatar of the ''Twilight'' film series. At 27, Rob is more than just an English actor who conquered Hollywood, or even any international star of TV series. This discreet Londoner, cultured and elegant became a global icon adored by millions of fans. A comfortable but temporary status - and above all extremely cumbersome - that the actor is changing slowly and very cleverly: against type casting roles (''Bel Ami'' by Maupassant, ''The Rover'' by David Michôd), adoption of a Cinema "father" in the person of David Cronenberg (''Cosmopolis'' in 2012 and a new movie in preparation) and a sensational entrance in the fashion world this fall by becoming the new face of Dior Homme fragrance. Lots of consistent evidence which tell us at Sport & Style, that we should not miss Rob Pattinson. Here he is sitting again and it's our turn to play vampires to elicit informations ...

New Robert Interview with Madame le Figaro

New Robert Interview with Madame le Figaro

New icon of Dior Homme cologne, the "Twilight" star refuse to let fame suck the lifeblood out of him. At 27, the idol who's so british demands his artistic ambition and his fierce hunger for freedom. Meeting with a new wave gentleman.

He's the star of the "Twilight" saga and only swears by Jean-Luc Godard. He's an hunted idol. He loves nothing more than parties among friends. He's cheerful, pessimistic, daring and anxious.
When you have to do a portrait of Robert Pattinson, you have to point out inconsistencies and try to understand why this 27 years old man, who might not have been armed to face this cannibal fame - gives a particular sense to the word "freedom". Some are more free than others, but not him, fighting against a seclusion he's trying to get out of.

One year after the "Twilight" saga ended - which propelled him amongst the tight group of overpayed actors in Hollywood. The impatient British guy wants to live differently than in the translucent skin of a romantic vampire who electrifies young girls.

Robert interview with Nodo9

Robert interview with Nodo9

Where you familiar with Don DeLillo’s novel?
No. Nut I had read a few of his other novels. First I read the script that David Cronenberg sent me and then the novel. One is incredibly faithful to the other, in a way that it seems impossible, for a novel that seemed impossible to adapt. But even before reading the book, what I was most impressed was the tension without release and the fast rhythm of the script.

What caught your attention the most about the movie?
Cronenberg, obviously. I’ve acted in other movies and non of them reached the level of what I expected working with him would be. He did not disappoint… I knew that it would be very creative and that it would be an authentic experience. And I was also very attracted to the prose in the script, similar to a long poem. And a mysterious poem too. Usually, when you read a script, you know very quickly what is it about, where is it going, how will it end; even if there are unexpected or sophisticated twists, or plot inversions. But this time it was completely different, the more I read, the least I could imagive where was it going and I wanted to be part of it even more. It can no be boxed in any movie genre, it stands as it’s own.

Robert Interview with 20 Minuten Online

How do you like the Twilight showdown?
When I first read the script I was pretty shocked. The ending with all its fights is rather untypical for Twilight. It’s going to be interesting.

Have you been interested in vampires beforehand?
Actually I’m not a fan of vampires at all, but of course I don’t have anything to object to them, too. Before shooting the first movie I did a lot of research, but I noticed quickly that there were hardly any similarities between Twilight and other vampires. Stephenie Meyer developed her very own imaginations in the books the movies are based on.

In what way has Twilight influenced your life?
Before the movies I didn’t really want to become an actor, but immediately I became famous and got recognized everywhere. After this success I could hardly do any other job, otherwise people would have asked me, what type of job I’d be doing there. Twilight has opened many doors for me and it made me look at my life in a different way.

The fans are looking forward to the highlight of the vampire-saga, but you’re also sad that it’s coming to an end. How are you feeling at this point?
I can relate to them. But right now I’m curious about how my life will continue without Twilight. Up to now I’ve returned from any other project back to Twilight. I’m curious about what my future will bring.

That sounds mysterious. Will you reveal where we’ll be seeing you next?
I’ve committed myself to about ten movies in the next year. Including “The Rover” with Guy Pearce. Then I’ll proceed with “Hold on to Me” where Carey Mulligan will be playing a femme fatale. Furthermore I’ll be playing with Naomi Watts and Jude Law in “Queen of the Desert” and after that I’ll be in “Maps of the Stars”, another movie by David Cronenberg.

Robert Interview with Reuters

Robert Interview with Reuters

Robert Pattinson has set young hearts aflutter as the teen vampire Edward Cullen in the "Twilight Saga" films, but as the sun sets on the franchise that launched his career, the actor is looking for more grown-up and "dangerous" roles.

"Breaking Dawn - Part 2," released this week, is the fifth and final in the series, and Edward's character shifts from brooding, tormented lover to a contented husband and father who must protect his family from an ancient vampire clan.

But Pattinson, 26, still has those rakish good looks that drew a screaming fan base and made him a tabloid fixture. While the avid fan excitement around the "Twilight" series overwhelms him, the British actor hopes his audience will follow him as he moves on.

"It's all about control. Now, I don't feel like I have any control whatsoever," he told Reuters with a laugh.

"They're a very ardent fan base, so to figure out a way to harness that vehement audience, it's definitely an important thing."

Robert, Jackson and Kristen Interview with Flick and Bits

Robert, Jackson and Kristen Interview with Flick and Bits

Robert Interview
What have you taken away from this final film in particular, working with this group of people? This series is almost like High School or College, every year you’re thrown back together with this group of people – with some new people, new classmates, teachers – to me it sort of has that feeling….
Robert Pattinson: Yeah. We’ve all had a massively formative experience together. It is sort of the same thing as going to College or High School. We’re all sort of around the same age as well, which is more unusual with a film. That usually doesn’t happen. It was a long haul for the last one, it definitely felt like an ending. Suddenly there was an enormous amount of new cast, we were doing scenes with 30 people in it, massive fight scenes. It seemed big, and you did feel like it turned into a juggernaut by that point. And then ending with me and Kristen, that was the final thing we shot. It was like, “Ah yeah, Edward and Bella, off into the sunset.” (Laughs).

Without giving too much away about the battle, what was that like to actually film? That’s certainly a bigger, more epic moment than what we’ve seen in any of the previous ‘Twilight’ movies. Did you do extra physical training for that?
Robert Pattinson: Yeah. I’d read that in the script before I read the book, so when it got to that moment I was thinking, “What?! Ok, you’re really going for it.” But it was crazy, just turning up – it felt like a vampire movie (laughs). But no, it was definitely exciting shooting that. Training wise, not really, and we were doing a lot of the choreography kind of on the fly – because people kept getting injured, so we kept having to change it (laughs). But it was fun. There was one massive shot, there’s like a 70 foot jump into a punch, that was pretty fun to shoot.

Kristen and Robert Interview with Washington Post

Kristen and Robert Interview with Washington Post

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson sit side by side on a sofa at the Four Seasons hotel, discussing the end of the five-film project that made them famous and brought them together.

“Twilight” rocketed both to superstardom, and their real-life romance only propelled them further. With Friday’s release of the final film in the franchise, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2,” the young actors bid farewell to the worldwide fantasy sensation, but not to the tabloid attention they garner wherever they go.

Now reunited, the pair finish each other’s sentences during a recent interview as they talk about how much their lives have changed since the first “Twilight” movie was released in 2008.

“After the first one, I mean, it’s a different world you’re living in,” says Pattinson, 26.

Robert and Kristen Interview with Los Angeles Times

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson walk 'Twilight' red carpet

It may seem like "Twilight" is coming to a close -- what with thousands of fans descending upon Los Angeles Monday night for the premiere of the final film.

But the journey isn't yet over for the stars of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2," who will jet to Europe this evening after attending the film's Hollywood premiere.

"Knowing we have to go to London tonight and then to Madrid is so annoying," said Robert Pattinson, decked out in a green Gucci suit.

Kristen Stewart seemed more taken with the present moment. Asked how it felt to know the vampire franchise was finally coming to a close, she could only muster the word "surreal."

"I know the most go-to answer for everyone on these carpets is 'Oh my gosh, this is so surreal,'" she said, affecting a valley girl voice. "But to be honest with you, this time is so completely surreal. I'm trying to absorb it. I'm trying to be here."

Robert Interview with San Francisco Gate

Robert Interview with SFGate

In some roles played over long periods, performers can find a way to make their character evolve, bend to their will. But in the glittering vampire world of "Twilight," star Robert Pattinson found that some things really do last forever.

"It's a strange character because there's not too many places to go," says Pattinson of much lusted-after, noble "vegetarian" vampire Edward Cullen. "He's gonna be around forever, he can't die, can't get hurt, his emotions are quite fossilized as well. I think (series author Stephenie Meyer) mentioned this in a book: With vampires, once you start feeling one thing, it just stays like that for ages. Once he's fallen in love with Bella, that's it. There's no other place to go but worrying about her."

Pattinson looks fit, if surprisingly thin, and perfectly put together as he puffs on an electronic cigarette in this Four Seasons suite in Los Angeles. However, with the promotional blitz for the franchise's final film - "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" - only just begun, he's already sounding a touch weary, though unfailingly polite and willing to answer questions. Perhaps it's the sound of a man with one more hill before the finish line.

Robert Interview with Daily Star

Robert Interview with Daily Star

NOW that it’s finally over, what was the most touching moment for you in the series and perhaps the hardest one too?
There was a bit in the first one, just when Bella is in the hospital and she says “Don’t ever leave me again” and I say “Where am I going to go?” or something like that. I still think that’s kind of my favourite scene in it. Mainly because it was so different from what happened after it and we made up the lines there and then – that’s how different the shoot was. Like every movie afterwards, the idea of making up lines is kind of unheard of. And so I loved that bit. The hardest scene was probably the birth scene in the first part of this film, mainly because it was hilarious – and it was supposed to be really serious.

Do you think you have a “timeless gentleman” quality?
I don’t know. I guess I’m relatively sensitive. Also, I had two older sisters so I grew up with lots of girls and I guess I kind of have a different mentality because of that. And I never really played any team sports or anything, so I guess all those things add up to that.

New Robert Interview with Washington Post

New Robert Interview with Washington Post

We’ve read the many, many headlines about Robert Pattinson. We’ve analyzed his work in the “Twilight” series as America’s Most Brooding and Swoon-Inducing Vampire. We’ve watched his frequent and occasionally awkward television interviews.

With the “Twilight” saga coming to an end next week following the release of “Breaking Dawn Part 2,” Pattinson, 26, can now fully focus on defining himself as an actor who appears in movies that don’t feature the Volturi. How does he feel as he makes that transition ? And is he really so up for a part in the “Star Wars” franchise that he would willingly play a live-action version of Jar Jar Binks ?

During a recent phone interview, I did my best to get the answers to some of these questions. Here’s a transcript of our conversation.

"Breaking Dawn Part 2'' Press Conference Transcript

Jackson

New vampires ?

I played a joke on Erik Odom, who plays one of my Texas brethern. I said, ''Hey man ? Where are your teeth ? You’re missing your teeth''

How do you feel about being able to surprise fans who have read the book so many times ?
The last 20 minutes of the film are really going to be huge for the fans. It’s really amazing and beautiful, and brings back to the first Twilight. It’s really awesome, and exciting!

Do you watch other vampire shows?
I always loved the vampire genre of film. I watch vampire movies like Underworld now, there are so many different types of vampires out there. That’s why I loved this world, it’s so different than any other type of vampire out there. I loved that about Part 2, we get to see vampires from all walks of life, from all over the world.
