A few days ago, Twitter followers submitted their box office predictions for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and most fans seemed to believe that Eclipse had a fighting chance at the number one spot for the summer.
Hollywood.com has taken it a step further and suggested that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse might turn out to be this year's biggest film all around.
The Twilight fans and demographic have been criminally ignored by the studio system over the past decade, a phenomenon that’s been exploited to the hilt by the Twilight franchise. The original earned $408 million. New Moon hit $700 million. That trendline suggests Eclipse is poised to be the biggest film of the summer, heck probably of the year. When that happens it won't be because it Eclipse is a fantastic film, it will be because the rest of the studios forgot that women don't only want to see romantic comedies.
Criminally ignored, eh?
Indeed the sentiment has been strong among those conversing about the Twilight phenomenon that perhaps Hollywood has been ignoring the power of the female demographic, and if Eclipse takes number one for the year, things will no doubt change . . . if they aren't already.
