Robert Pattinson: A Hair History

Robert Pattinson: A Hair History

Sure, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's are-they-aren't-they relationship probably gets the most tabloid ink as far as "Twilight"-related fodder is concerned, but we have a feeling Rob's signature tresses come in a close second. Who among us hasn't spent a moment (or two, or three) admiring, marveling and staring with wonderment at those shampoo-commercial-worthy locks?

But as riveting as his hairstyle is today, it hasn't always been in tip-top shape. So in honor of tonight's "MTV First: Robert Pattinson," let's take a look back at RPattz's hair evolution.

When Robert first burst onto the cinema scene as Cedric Diggory in 2005's "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," the boy who would be Edward sported a shaggier, decidedly less voluminous 'do that lacked the gravity-defying benefits of pomades or gel. It was a nice, boyish look, and we totally swooned in our theater seats. But fast-forward two years later, and RPattz's mop top had become a bit haphazard and dangerously wind-blown looking at the "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" premiere. We're assuming he had grown it out for his "How to Be" role, in which he played aimless musician Art. (Starving artists can't afford Vidal Sassoon cuts...) Let's just say, this look hit the wrong note.

By 2008, however, the "Twilight" star had undergone his now-infamous Edward Cullen transformation, complete with sun-kissed, strategically messy locks that we wanted to reach out and touch. And tousle. And caress lovingly. And thus, a hair icon was born. For his part, Rob didn't really understand all the fuss. "Nothing’s ever baffled me as much as this," he told E! Online back in 2008 about his hair. "I wanted to get a haircut today, but they wouldn’t let me. They were like, ‘You can’t ruin our marketing!'"

Yet, cut it he eventually did. In March 2010, Rob turned up on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" flaunting a much-shorter 'do for his role as Jacob Jankowski in the upcoming "Water for Elephants." But he tried to convince Ellen the chop was for much less, um, sanitary reasons. "I got a terrible infestation of nits, and I had to shave it all off," he kidded.

Most recently, Rob raised eyebrows when he showed up at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards with red hair! A hue he claimed was a bit of an accident. "It’s a different color in 'Twilight' than it is in 'Water for Elephants,' so I had to do a rush dye job," he explained to Access Hollywood. "Just like some mousse. Isn’t it amazing?" We don't know if amazing is the word, but it sure is...different.
