'Snow White and the Huntsman': 5 Reasons We're Excited

'Snow White and the Huntsman': 5 Reasons We're Excited

There are already several big-screen versions of 'Snow White' currently in production. It seems like one would be just fine, but hey, that's Hollywood for you. So what makes 'Snow White and the Huntsman' stand out from the rest of the pack? There are several reasons that we at Moviefone are excited for the upcoming adaptation of the fairy tale.

'Snow White and the Huntsmen' will hit theaters on June 1, 2012.

1. Kristen Stewart as Snow White
Yea, yea -- we can see all you Kristen Stewart haters rolling your eyes from here. However, we are pretty intrigued to see how she will step up to the plate as she winds down her role as Bella Swan in the 'Twilight' franchise (the final film of the series comes out at the end of 2012, five months after 'Snow White'). Plus, after hanging around vampires and werewolves for the last few years, dwarves should be a piece of cake.

2. Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman
Picture Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Now picture Thor with an axe instead of a hammer and you have the Huntsman in this story. Hemsworth plays Eric, a man who is sent to kill Snow White on orders of the Evil Queen, Ravenna (Charlize Theron)

3. The Dwarves
Let's run down the list of actors starring as dwarves in this retelling: Ian McShane, Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Stephen Graham, Ray Winstone and Nick Frost. Seriously, you couldn't ask for a better dwarf lineup than that -- and we cannot wait to see what the always intimidating McShane looks like as a slightly smaller version of himself.

4. A grittier take on the fairy tale
Director Rupert Sanders plans to do something a little different from the classic Snow White fairy tale. In the original story, the huntsman is sent by the Evil Queen to kill Snow White, and upon meeting her, has a change in heart. In this film, Sanders will go one step further by having the huntsman train Snow White to survive and fight back.

5. Charlize Theron is going to be one badass Evil Queen
Her quote during the Comic-Con panel speaks for itself. This is what Theron had to say on playing the Evil Queen to Kristen Stewart's Snow White: "I'm ready for it, b---h. Let's go." 'Nuff said.
