Will Robert Pattinson Star Alongside Naomi Watts In 'Queen Of The Desert'?
Robert Pattinson's post-"Twilight" dance card has been filling up faster than Channing Tatum's at a strip club. Okay... that might be a tiny exaggeration, but suffice it to say dude will be busy in the coming months with projects like "Mission: Blacklist" and "The Rover." Yet, one film we haven't heard much about lately is the period piece "Queen of the Desert."
Starring Naomi Watts, the Werner Herzog-directed pic follows English writer Gertrude Bell, an archaeologist and explorer, while Robert would play her lifelong friend T.E. Lawrence (otherwise known as Lawrence of Arabia), who worked with Gertrude to establish the Hashemite dynasties in Jordan and Iraq.
Robert talked briefly with MTV News last summer about the project, but what's the status now? We caught up with Naomi at the Sundance Film Festival (where she's promoting her film "Two Mothers") to find out.
"We'll wait and see," Naomi demurred when asked if filming would take place soon. "He's a director I'm completely in awe of. He's a wonderful filmmaker and documentarian. It's a fantastic character, great story. I'm not sure when it's going to take place yet; there's been so much travel, as well, and I've got little kids, so we'll see if it happens later this year or next year."
As to Robert's involvement: "I don't know if he definitely is yet," she said.
Here's hoping we are indeed treated to the sight of Robert Pattinson wearing a headdress and riding a camel.
