"Water For Elephants" Second Trailer Review
The new trailer for Water For Elephants just hit, giving us a peek at some of the scenes that weren't included in the original preview. For starters, it begins with Jacob's (Robert Pattinson) life before the circus, explaining how he ended up as part of the Benzini Brothers. This trailer also has a more somber tone, showcasing August's (Christoph Waltz) dark side and focusing on the love story between Jacob and Marlena (Reese Witherspoon). If these trailers are any indication, we're in for a beautiful film adaptation of the best-selling novel.
"Love is worth the risk." With a few weeks before opening, Amazon has debuted another full-length trailer for Francis Lawrence's adaptation of Water for Elephants, the circus drama starring Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz, James Frain, Hal Holbrook (who isn't in this trailer). We've seen at least two fantastic trailers before, but this one seems a bit more straightforward with the story from the book and spends a little more time focused on Pattinson and his character. I really can't wait to see this, the way it builds is so epic. This trailer is a little spoilery in showing a lot of the film, but still looks great.
The handsome teaser shows “Twilight” heartthrob hopping a circus train toward his destiny, where he meets and falls in love with Reese Witherspoon (much to her husband, Christoph Waltz’s, chagrin).
The trailer, which looks fantastic, sets the stage for a face off between Pattinson and Waltz for Witherspoon’s heart. It’s gorgeously mounted, with a classic “Old Hollywood” feel. The concept of forbidden romance might not be a stretch for Pattinson, coming off of his “Twilight” gig, but this one has moved near the top of our anxious-to-see list.
Here’s hoping Lawrence and his cast can convey the emotions needed to make “Elephants” fly.
I’d like to think whoever cut the new trailer for next month’s Water for Elephants is playing a cruel little game with us: They know some of us will start out drooling over the sight of Robert Pattinson in a suit … and then feel guilty when his character abruptly finds out that his parents have been killed in a car accident. Well done. You got us. The trailer below teases more of the love triangle that develops between Pattinson (a veterinary student in charge of caring for a traveling circus’ animals), Reese Witherspoon (the beautiful performer he falls for), and Christoph Waltz (Witherspoon’s husband, the troupe’s animal trainer), as well as the consequences. The music is different this time, but still pitch perfect. Hal Holbrook, who was the emotional center of the first trailer as Pattinson’s aged character recalling the story of “the most famous circus disaster of all time,” is absent, but it’s good to know the film packs a punch even without him. What do you think?
