Robert Pattinson Prepares For 'Cosmopolis' And His Leading Lady Sarah Gadon
On paper, it seems like Robert Pattinson wouldn't have much to do to prepare for "Cosmopolis," David Cronenberg's upcoming big screen adaptation of Don DeLillo's 2003 novel. As Eric Packer, Patttinson will have to play a rich, good-looking, 20-something (check!) with a personal attachment to a beautiful woman (check!) and people trying to take him down (hey, some people just really don't like "Twilight"!)
Of course, bringing a character to life is far more complicated than that. When MTV News caught up with the actor, he discussed how he'd have to jump right from the starkly different "Water For Elephants" and "Breaking Dawn" into "Cosmopolis."
Pattinson said he's doing "various little things" to get ready for the role, including "working with a dialect coach." Because, as Pattinson explained, his Manhattan-based character has a "very specific accent."
There's also the matter of meeting his "Cosmopolis" leading lady, Sarah Gadon, who plays his estranged wife Elise. "I haven't talked to her at all yet," admitted Pattinson, who also revealed he knew about Gabon's casting "for a while" (Marion Cotillard and Kiera Knightley were initially rumored to be the front-runners for the part) despite not telling us during last month's "MTV First: Robert Pattinson."
But, that didn't mean the 24-year-old star didn't have kind things to say about the relatively unknown actress (the Canadian native is perhaps most recognized for her work on televisions series such as "Happy Town" and "Being Erica"), who he described as having "a great face."
"I've seen a couple of things she's done," he said, adding, "She's really good." In fact, Gadon's addition to the already impressive "Cosmopolis" cast (it also includes Paul Giamatti) gave Pattinson an extra boost of confidence in the film. As he told MTV, "I think it's going to be a great cast."
"Cosmopolis" is expected to arrive in theaters in 2012.
